NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – BGI said today that its Hong Kong lab has received accreditation from the American College of Pathologists.
It is the first clinical next-generation sequencing lab to receive CAP accreditation in China, according to BGI. The firm noted that the lab already has multiple ISO certifications.
BGI provides a variety of genomics services based on high-throughput platforms and owns US-based sequencing services firm Complete Genomics, which it acquired two years ago.
Last week, BGI said that it plans to launch a desktop sequencer called BGISEQ-500 in October.
BGISEQ-500 will be based on Complete Genomics’ technology and will automate sample preparation, sequencing, and data analysis. BGI also plans to run its noninvasive prenatal test, NIFTY, on the new instrument.
